The United Nations General Assembly resolved in July 2010 to form a hybrid entity, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (commonly known as UN-Women). Integrating the mandates and functions of the Secretariat's Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women, the Division for the Advancement of Women, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, and the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women, and transferring them to UN-Women.
