On 7 April, the General Assembly of the United Nations voted to suspend the Russian Federation from the Human Rights Council. The vote ended with 93 votes in favour, 24 against and 58 abstentions. Belarus, China, and Syria voted against.
According to the draft resolution, the Human Rights Council is profoundly concerned by the ‘systematic violation and trampling of human rights’ by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, and the Council considers this to be a violation of international humanitarian law.
